I have some ideas that I am putting together for the 1st edition of the FRA Newsletter (Has not been named yet).

I would like some feedback on what kinds of things would you like to see in the Newsletter in the future.  This is your chance to help mold the Newsletter direction/content.

Also if you would like to help by submitting information/articles/pictures/drawings etc.  send me and email at randyb@buffington.com or send me a pm, or post it here.  I am currently looking for content for the newsletter.

Just a few ideas.....the important issues that concern our sport.....

Who are the top 5 beer drinkers/players in Florida? I'm talking about guys(or gals) that can pound 'em 'til the wee hours and wake up and somehow find their game. To me, that is an incredible feat, and I am consistently amazed by this behavior. Representing St. Pete will be Derek Kazakos, the Legend is always ready to tip one back and has always played well the next day!

Who are considered to be the top 5 players that bend the rules from time to time? Yeah, the multi-bounce players that never see their own skips but can spot one of yours from 38 feet away. We all know they're out there....that's a newsletter item I'd like to read.

How 'bout a "Where are they now" segment? Let's start with Todd Nguyen.

Please tell me there will be a "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit" edition of the newsletter. And yes, be sure to include players wives. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

How about a crime blotter in the newsletter? I'm kinda' tired of scouring the County Sheriff's websites to see if any racquetballers have been pinched lately.

Let's get serious.....if we had a "Road Warrior style" racquetball court cage match, two men go in, one man comes out.....Who would win??, but more important, who would we like to see go at it? I'm sure that Mr. Hansen and Mr. Harmon might get a few votes. I'm also sure the Prez knows a few crazy submission holds and my guess is that it might not be wise to end up in there with Mr. Junki.

Just a couple of ideas to get you started.....

how about a player profile? everyone knows players by their division, weakness, etc. But we don't really know that much personal info about each player. A profile of players that shows if they are married, kids, what they do for a living, etc. I think would be cool.

Joe,

In my earlier days, I would have liked to be considered for the top beer drinker/player award. But the "hangovers hurt more than they used to".

I love the idea of the "Where are they now" segment, and I do know where Todd Nguyen is. Here are some names from the past that I wonder where they are.

Mark Morrison

Matt Matthews

Sergio Gonzalez

Diane Bullard/Green

Julie Pinnell

And there are plenty more out there.

The Swimsuit Idea, sounds good, but probably not practical, If you remember the newsletter we used to publish several years ago, Bill Herr, Myself, Ron Maisel, and Bubba (Wayne Ivey) all posed on a court with our shirts off. We (the FRA) caught a little flack about that one from a few people.

I like the "road warrior style" match idea also. Count me in. Size or speed does not matter. When they fall, all I want is someone to yell "TIMBER!!" I have a job that teaches me one thing in this type of situation, Win or Die. Plus, if all else fails, I am an expert in the art of gun-fu.

Yeah Prez, I think that picture had something to do with why there are defibrilators in all gyms now.

I'd like to see a glossary of racquetball terms in the newsletter as well.

For instance:

The guys at Interbay in Tampa have some unique sayings......

They play cut throat over there, except that they call it Having a three way, and the loser of the first game has to wear a Speedo and coat himself in Johnson's Baby Oil for the rest of the night.

When you play doubles at Interbay you start with your regular partner but about midway through the night you all throw your gloves in a gym bag and pick one out for a new partner. There is usually some bad disco music playing....and you guessed it...they call it Swingers.

Seriously...this time...the Newsletter should have some surveys in it. Surveys that originate in the newsletter but direct people to the website for responses. The usual subjects should be covered, best backhand, best forehand, best drive serve, etc....

I'd also like to see some other surveys....

Hold Up or Swing Away??!! List some players that are notorious and simply ask the question.....If this guy/gal is in your way.....do you Hold Up or Swing Away? For example....When Ron Burris hits that drive Z for the 100th time, it comes off the side wall all the way to the middle of the court, and he is planted in center court......Kaboom!!

Oh Crap, or Oh Yeah??!! When you get to Orlando for State Singles and see who you have on your side of the draw....usually you can put each opponent into a category.....Oh Crap or Oh Yeah.

How about a survey listing your top 5 flavors of shots created by the Shot Queen?

The top 5 reasons you play racquetball?

The top 5 reasons why you want to quit playing racquetball?

Top 5 smack talkers in Florida history?

Top 5 matches?

Top 5 upsets?

Thanks Randy!!

Oh yes ECFoecking,

My secret is out. The fanny pack has a purpose. I've lost count of how many bad guys I've sent to the  "Crow Bar Hotel". So I'm usually armed, and sometimes dangerous.

I like Chad's idea too. A little personal profile on a player or two. South Carolina had started doing that on their site, but seems to have discontinued it.

Dorner, ironic you like ripping on us Interbay YMCA folks yet you still have this fetish for Todd Nguyen. Perhaps YOU can anwer that "Where are they now" question segment you put forth as an idea. Last anyone heard is that when he got out of the HOOSEKOW he was living on your couch. We heard you guys were playing some game called "Orient Road slip n slide."

Player profile is an idea that I am incorporating into the newsletter.  I am looking for a list of items to cover on a player profile.

Name, Age, City, Racqquet preference
Lefty/Righty, Occupation,
Employer, Spouse, Kids, Home Club,
Current Division, Hobbies, Tournament Player,
Sponsorships, titles, volunteer work,  Ball of Preference,Year Started playing, High School, College, Height, weight, place of birth, Parents, Nicknames,

This is a start....  What other items should we look for?

Wow!  Sometime I even impress myself.

The Florida Racquetball Newsletter  will be the newsletter that all others will be compared against (name will be revealed on the 1st issue - not in concreate yet so get your ideas in...).    It is turning out much better than I had hoped for.  (Keep in mind I am very new to this type of material).

The newsletter has grown to 25+ articles/stats etc.  I am in the final stages of editing and formatting.  I have 2 more sets of stats to add to the final production.  I expect it to go out in the next 24 hours. (Taking longer than expected for formatting with so much content) but I thought I would raise anticipation with a teaser post.

The Newsletter will be about 1Meg relative to the size of one quality digital camera picture.  You will be able to remove yourslef from the Newsletter (see bottom of newsletter).  It will be available on the website in the near future as well.

I want to thank everyone in advanced who help make this newsletter by dedicating time out of the schedule to write articles and thus help racquetball.

Looking forward to the feedback...

:dude:
