Angel - I think you are estimating pretty low. We had that many last year with no money on the line.
Once the word gets out about the prize money, I expect a much bigger turnout - especially from S Florida. Last year only 4 teams from S Fla were in each of the mens divisions when we were playing for trophies. $1500 on the line will make an impact I believe!
Blast emails are about to go out. Snowball is about to start rolling down the mountain....
True, 80 to 100 may be more accurate. $1500 has a way of motivating a lot of people. Either way, you and I have a date during pool play.

Just talked to Ron and Jacky over the weekend and they have committed to playing...I told Ron to call Mike and get his a** down here.
Mike...I am sure you can win with old man Burris. Either way, we can go out and drink like the good old days. You know someone will have a hold'em table going...Even more money to win....LOL

Saturday morning from 9am until about 1pm.
Come strong or don't come at all. Body armor is recommended but not required.
And oh yeah, new guys are required to bring a cooler full of Gatorade.
Timing is essential at Forbes, you're gonna want to get there early. We play doubles mostly and if you are the last guy standing you could end up partners with Todd "The Asian Tsunami" Nguyen. If that's the case you can look forward to an incredibly long day of skipped serves, phantom hinders, parking lot lobs, and service returns that could possibly orbit the globe.

| Wow. I will make sure I wear my kevlar vest, my kevlar helmet, and arrive at 530am, that way, somebody really good gets stuck with my lowly long wall sub-novice playing self. I will be sure to try my best to sandbag, so that i am underestimated severely in the tournament by all the locals.

My mistake Mr. Nguyen. You are obviously a tremendous player that rarely skips, never serves wide or long, and completely understands the nuances of short wall outdoor doubles.
p.s. Footloose called, they want their sleeveless t-shirts back.

Oh really? I am not so sure.
I love Mike, and he is one of my favorite people to watch play RB. I even bragged on him to the Cali folks all weekend at the WOR Championships - saying Mike could be in the to 10 or so of IRT if he chose to go that route.
But Mike and Ron would not be the favorite to win.
Chris McDonald will be playing this year. With the exception of Shane, Chris will be head and shoulders better than everyone else at this event - including Joe Young, Me, Rob Mijares and any of the S Fla guys who make the trek. Tampa is the exact same sized court that Chris has played on since his mom was still on the court while pregnant with him. In the McDonald back yard, they built 2 racquetball courts exactly the same size as the Tampa courts. Chris and his dad are the team to beat. Trust me on this.
And I think Shane and I would handle them fairly easily. So would Rob and Mark - or Joe and Yelandi. Not sure what other guys from down south will be making the trip.
If Mike plays with Toby, he would have a much better fighting chance. Toby's athletic ability helps him hit overheads and he was exceptionaly quick to learn. But you just cant learn the game on the fly. Short wall is much much much tougher than long wall to transition to. Practicing againt the Tampa gang will not at all prepare Mike/Ron/Toby or any indoor stud for my out the door serves, let alone Chris McDonald's which make me look like an amateur. They wont even figure out the right shot to hit when pushed 10 ft off the court and cant even see the front wall.
Dont get me wrong. Mike Harmon is a complete stud - and if he played with the top guys he would be a force to reckon very very quickly. But not in one weekend. Not shortwall. And not without getting the reps in against the top guys who really know how to play shortwall. You guys dont even understand the spacing, serves and strategy it takes to win at short wall. You all dont have the shots or defensive positionng to help Mike see and learn how to play the game at a top level.
I guess there is one way to find out!

Pretty big day out at Forbes Rec today. Angel and Jimmy came over from Tampa and smacked everybody around for about three hours. Angel was dialed in from 35 feet+ and Jimmy was handling the front court with his usual touch and accuracy. Kudos, we hope to see you guys back out there more often!
Had a couple of new guys out there that found out about Forbes on the forums and Jason from Jacksonville was also out showing us how they do it up in Jville. Keep coming back Jason, we all know we only saw glimpses of your best stuff today.
Mark Maupin and illiana showed up late in the morning and played until nobody was left to challenge them. Mark has some excellent short wall skills, we were all taking notes on his serves and shot selections out there.
Had three courts going around Noon. Great day at Forbes Rec! Thanks for coming out.

| Thanks for the hospitality guys. Even though these guys severly took advantage of my lack of short wall skills, it was a fun learning and entertaining experience. I have complete confidence now that I will only get creamed in the tourny instead of decimated thanks to the tips and experience gained on saturday. I will definately make the trip out there anytime I am in the area and maybe in a few years, I will be able to compete with these guys. Thanks Joe for patiently losing with me for most of the day. But we did ALMOST beat Angel and Jimmy...so we got that.

There's a shootout at Tropical 2 weeks prior - which actually is a good thing.
Me and other Ft lauderdale gang will be in Tropical with that crowd in the next few weeks practicing on those courts and recruiting for this 2 weeks later.
I am guessing the word about the money will get the Miami gang travelling - especially when they hear Forbes is really short walls - almost like they're home court. We'll start yakking it up at Holiday this week as well.

Ily - The only difference in the courts will be that they are 3 ft wider.
See you in Tampa!

Just got home from Forbes....here's a news flash....Chris Young has been working on his short wall game. The Kid is good. Beat us up for two solid hours.
It was Cool Hand Luke sweaty out there.

Joe,
Will you guys be out this Saturday? I plan on being there if you are. I know there is a tourny in Tampa this weekend, so I didn't know if all you guys would be playing in it. I totally plan on bringing my "C" game this time..lol

Oh yeah, Forbes will be going Saturday morning. A few of us are playing in Tampa, but the majority of the Forbes crew will be out there.
